In this position you will serve as the Deputy Chief, Health Administration Service (HAS). and is the second level supervisory and managerial authority over HAS at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center (RLRVAMC) in Indianapolis, IN. This position exercises direct supervisory control and management authority for the day-to-day operations of Health Administration Service.
Duties

In this position you will also serve as the Assistant Chief Business Officer for the medical center and secondary health benefits advisor to senior management officials.
Major Duties:
Serves as a subject matter expert/SME and advisor on health administration issues.
Serves as a delegate of the Chief of HAS in his/her absence, and has full delegated responsibility for the planning, direction, control, coordination, operation, and evaluation of all health administrative functions for VA patients.
Participates fully in facility and VISN strategic planning initiatives.
Provides oversight and guidance for clinical and administrative service lines.
Provides supervision for a staff of more than 200 employees.
Develops performance plans, writing proficiencies, and evaluates performance of subordinates.
Establishes, revises, or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff.
Initiates and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules based on difficulty of requirements and assignments.
Establishes metric and analysis systems for sections managed.
Reviews training recommended by subordinate supervisor.
Represents HAS on facility committees as assigned.
Plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees work of HAS through subordinate supervisors.
Selects candidates for subordinate non-supervisory positions and recommends selections for subordinate supervisory positions.
Assist with developing the budget for the entire service.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:30AM 4:00PM

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Medical Administrative Officer position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes planning, developing, organizing, and directing a complex, comprehensive patient administrative management, which provides the services necessary to meet all procedural, and administrative requirements of a healthcare organization; making recommendations that affect internal and external healthcare programs and policies; and experience restructuring and forecasting, recommending immediate and long-range goals, objectives, plans, and schedules to meet changes in legislation, program authority, and/or findings.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary but also demands some standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of charts, folders, forms, and miscellaneous supplies to various locations within the sites of care for meetings.
