You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYISCIAL SCIENTIST/ OCEANOGRAPHER in the Data Ingest Division, Operations Department of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will be responsible for facilitating communications for T-AGS vessels.
You will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the continual transfer of survey data collections from T-AGS vessels via commercial bandwidth.
You will be responsible for the receipt and accuracy of loading to the Storage Area Network (SAN) of all digital data received from both T-AGS vessels and external sources.
You will be responsible for the appropriate tracking and storage of current digital media along with maintaining and disposal of historical scientific records.
You will be responsible for briefing outgoing Data Managers and required to maintain a current knowledge of equipment changes, software updates, and procedural changes made to T-AGS vessels.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience monitoring and analyzing near real-time data transfer from NAVOCEANO survey assets, comparing data quantities received, and troubleshooting data transfer problems as well as other problems to the Survey Operations Center (SOC).
Experience analyzing problems and resolving or coordinating with the necessary personnel to assuring they are resolved as well as monitoring survey data and ensuring communication connectivity with survey platforms and document any problems or reports.
Experience in data structures and file systems and can easily work on Windows or Linux based systems to accomplish a variety of data collection, processing, and formatting data to achieve data transfers to and from vessels.
Experience developing and maintaining databases dealing with historical archival holdings and SOC data rate transmissions.
Experience monitoring collection systems, resolving software issues on collection systems, ensuring all data is backed up to current storage data tapes, and data tapes are appropriately packaged and mailed back to the office.

General Physical Science Series, 1301:
- Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Oceanography Series, 1360:

Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
