You will serve as an Engineering Technician in the Spacecraft Engineering Division, Code 822300 within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY
Duties
You will perform routine, periodic and emergency mechanical and electronic maintenance, calibration and repair of the PCF’s thermal-vacuum test equipment to ensure operational ready status.
You will perform routine, periodic and emergency maintenance, calibration and repair of the PCF’s cleanroom environments.
You will perform test fixture design and assembly; test configuration design, setup, assembly, integration and instrumentation.
You will support design of test instrumentation, data acquisition and collection.
You will install structural hardware, mechanical and electronic components, flight instruments, and test equipment and instrumentation at prescribed locations or hardware under test.
You will conduct TVAC and T-Cycle tests following project technical instructions and procedures, facility SOP’s, and manufacturer equipment procedures.
You will monitor and document test conditions of hardware under test and test chamber operations using commercial and in-house software.

Qualifications
This position has a Selective Placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The Selective Placement factor is: This position requires the ability to learn and willingness to work on all forms of high vacuum technology, including computer controlled cryo pump and GN2 thermal conditioning systems.
In addition to the Selective Placement Factor your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-01/04 grade level or NR-01 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Knowledge of basic safety rules and use of personal protective equipment (PPE); 2) Knowledge and practical experience in complex systems of fluid management, including cryogenic fluid, and mechanical pump systems; 3) Knowledge on how to use vacuum leak detection equipment; 4) Experience in pipe fitting and being able to build a plumbing system free of leaks including air, nitrogen, water and vacuum systems; 5) Knowledge of basic electrical equipment installation such as cable tray and junction box installation; 6) Knowledge in computer skills including Microsoft tools; 7) Skilled in use of all common powered and non-powered hand tools including basic shop tools; and 8) Ability to read, interpret and create technical documents, work instructions, procedures, assembly and manufacturing drawings to plan and execute installations.

Education
The following education may substituted for experience:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. equivalent). At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
