About the Position: Supervises a shift of police officers engaged in general law enforcement, prevention, and response duties. Submits recommendations for personnel actions, prepares official evaluations of subordinate employees' performance, controls annual leave schedules, and monitors sick leave requests.

Duties

Supervises a shift of police officers engaged in general law enforcement, prevention, and response duties. Monitors training and proficiency of individuals, conducting on-the-job training where needed, and recommending higher skill level training to increase the proficiency of the force. Reviews crime trends and accident data and implements preventive measures for reduction of their occurrence. Investigates or directs the investigation of all incidents occurring during the shift; ensures protection of evidence, proper interviews of witnesses; assigns additional support personnel as appropriate; coordinates with neighboring jurisdictions. Participates in establishing overall policies and directives for coordinating and directing police activities in all phases of law and order, crime prevention, and physical security functions. Exercises delegated authority to apprehend military and civilian personnel, including juveniles, committing offenses on the installation. Responsible for the activities and functions of the shift during the tour of duty and directs the operations of the station, patrols and posts. Responds to all crime scenes; and, in serious complaints involving alleged criminal offenses, conducts an initial investigation to determine if a crime has been committed, requests investigative support.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG) and requires a one-year probationary period.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires successful completion of the USAMPS Civilian Police Academy Program of instruction within one year of appointment.
  • This position requires the completion of a physical fitness agility test annually.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate an Emergency Vehicle when patrolling and must successfully complete the Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course.
