You will serve as a IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT/NETWORK) of NCIS. All Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) positions are in the excepted service. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.

Duties

You will be responsible for the customer support, installation, configuration, maintenance and management of NCIS computer systems, Local Area Network(s), and Wide Area Network(s) within a designated area set across multiple states . You will perform computer hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting and resolution, wide and local area network (WAN/LAN) management, Windows, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Server administration, systems analysis and configuration. You will perform technical evaluations of computer system hardware and software resources to determine critical areas for improvement to increase its performance and decrease outages. You will serve as the technical expert and works independently in integrating, developing, and implementing computer systems. You will serve as the central point for the Organizations inventory management within the area of responsibility.

  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the excepted service which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The incumbent must obtain Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III certification within 6 months of appointment and maintain such certification.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with lifecycle management, inventory management, system resource management, change management, IT troubleshooting, and COMSEC compliance policies; Experience working with the, implementation, fielding, and sustainment of IT resources; Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, managing and administering IT Systems and networks; Coordinating IT Support across different teams; Experience providing technical support, advice, resolution of complex problems associated with the implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of infrastructure; and Experience in software, and security controls at the appropriate levels of security.
