You will serve as a WOODCRAFTER SUPERVISOR I in the Preservation Shop (Code 970), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be for carrying out EEO policies and communicating support of these policies to subordinates. You will control and effectively uses helper and trainee level people, overtime, common skills, second set-of hands, work leaders, back shifts, overhead budgets, and training. You will honor training and medical schedules for assigned personnel. You will analyze work plans developed by subordinate work leaders and journeymen. You will assign work to work leaders or individual journeymen. You will provide technical direction to subordinate workers in the woodcrafter trade.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to Lift/Carry up to 50lbs.
  • You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO PROVIDE PRODUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES Experience reviewing the quantity and quality of the work performed by subordinates through expert knowledge of the methods, techniques, processes, procedures, tools, materials, and hypothetical, precise, and/or artistic work practices of the woodcrafter trade. Experience establishing deadlines, priorities, work sequences, and planning the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools provided through the AIM process. Experience facilitating production using decision and breakdown in areas such as determining work time, preparing and implementing procedures, detecting bottlenecks, making and interpreting reports, keeping records, interpreting technical data, and making computations.
