You will serve as a WOODCRAFTER LEADER in the Preservation Shop (Code 970), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will utilize information from blueprints, sketches, and work documents to plan and execute the sequence of work tasks. You will maintain close observation of all work operations and assure proper adherence to procedures and guidelines. You will perform journeyman level woodcrafter work. You will ensure workers have the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, and tools to perform their work operations. You will provide on the job training for workers, and correct improper woodcrafter methods.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Providing on the job training for workers and corrects improper woodcrafter work methods. Performing journeyman level woodcrafter in these key job areas: Hull Dampning tile work; installation of poly shielding, cans, and bulkheads; installation of formica, benelex bench tops, lead shielding and insulation; Deck covering; Reefer areas and insulation.
