You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Propulsion Machinery Branch (Code 266), Fluid/Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 260), Office of Chief Engineer (Code 240), Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Duties

You will perform and direct other lesser grade engineers and engineering technicians in the performance of system analysis, design services and the development and issuing of engineering plans and instructions. You will prepare advance planning Technical Work Documents (TWDs) in the form of Engineering Drawing, Job Summaries, Task Group Instructions (TGIs), Production Estimates, testing, and material procurement documents. You will provide direction for procurement of material and services associated with the assigned projects. You will identify material costs and production man-hours required for all phases of tasking for incorporation into Job Summaries and for preplanning use by shipyard customers. You will provide waterfront support during execution of scheduled repairs and modification. You will resolve problems encountered during removal, installation, grooming, or testing phases of waterfront production efforts

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying a wide range of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, methods, precedents, and techniques. Experience developing Job Material Lists (JML's), detailed technical guidance based on specifications, working plans, and calculations to ensure compliance with specification and quality requirements. Experience applying knowledge of Submarine secondary propulsion plant systems (main steam, aux steam, feed and condensate, cooling water, lubrication oils stowage, handling and distribution, high pressure, air, hydraulics, steering and diving, plumbing, and all associated equipment and hardware) Experience utilizing special emphasis programs such as SUBSAFE, Level I, Steam Plant Cleanliness, Deep Submergence Systems - Scope of Certification (DSS-SOC).
