The primary purposes of this position are: To serve as a Technical Training Instructor performing all technical training instructor classroom-related activities, utilizing approved curriculum IAW Air Education and Training Command (AETC) instructions and Special Warfare Training Group (SWTG) Process Guides

Duties

Plans, organizes, manages, and conducts effective classroom academic, and performs intense high-risk land and water-based training designed to demonstrate the importance and uses of various tactical applications Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates a comprehensive and effective training program Researches, develops, revises, and recommends updates to CCT, STO, SR, SW-ATC, SLJM, and SLJM-MTT course materials in accordance with established learning objectives Maintains professional and technical proficiency and accomplishes difficult but well precedented special projects related to specialty area, to include staff assistance visits to various training activities

  • Experience in combat, Special Operations ground forces, advanced infantry and troop leadership skills, or experience and knowledge of conducting airborne / military free-fall (MFF) (con't)
  • (con"t) insertion methods and applicable mission planning/MDMP skills preferred
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in air traffic control tactics, techniques, and procedures, with location/course specific requirement to participate in tactical air traffic control (con't)
  • (con't) and forward airspace control training, operations, and exercises and maintenance of currencies and standards per AFI 13-217 is preferred
  • May be required to carry a side arm to protect students during field exercises in remote areas and to transport explosive training materials
  • Weapon-related background check is required
  • May be responsible for performing Landing Zone Safety Operations (LZSO) or Landing Zone Controller Operations (LZC)
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • May be required to work on special projects as directed by the supervisor
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass (con't)

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Continued: Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended 30 Sep 96. Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition. This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: "The rigorous nature of Special Warfare instruction and relevant training requires physical fitness and mental focus. Incumbent is expected to project a professional image and be capable of personal fitness to compliment training interaction and credibility. Training occurs in physically challenging environments in all weather conditions and all times of day. Instructor is expected to accompany and interact with students and other instructors on training exercises including, but not limited to, field, water training events, and protracted exercises. The incumbent is expected to dress appropriately for environmental conditions and to carry appropriate selfsupporting fluids and gear. Work will require standing on feet for extended periods of time. Load-carrying movements may be required, often moving over, around, and through obstacles. Activities may require extended endurance, in extreme temperatures over rough terrain. Routine travel between geographically separated training locations will be required." The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instructor Series 1712 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest; knowledge of CCT, STO, SR, SW-ATC, SLJM, and SLJM-MTT at a practical level; knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. 2. Knowledge/application of the principles and techniques required to develop and conduct instructional programs for efficient delivery of training; knowledge/application of continuous improvement through program objectives and assessments of tactics, techniques, and procedures for accomplishing special training studies and projects. 3. Knowledge/application of data collection techniques, practices, and statistical analysis principles for trend analysis; ability to work harmoniously with all levels of persons/leadership from varied backgrounds and occupational specialties. 4. Knowledge, skills, and abilities in specialized Special Operations Forces (SOF) mission sets, tactics, techniques, and procedures, with location/course determined requirement to participate in infil/exfil training, mobility and air operations, exercises, and physical/field training activity; knowledge, skills, and abilities in physical training techniques; knowledge, skills, and abilities to conduct/perform high endurance training in all climatic environments - day/night, land/water/air - during protracted training periods and under adverse conditions. 5. Skill in accomplishing special training studies and projects; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, develop materials for presentation, with ability to project voice to large groups in outdoor/noisy areas without speech impediments, and establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships; ability to analyze problems and develop/execute timely and economical processes for improvement and resolution of problems 6. Ability to assess, evaluate, and apply safety and Operation Risk Management (ORM) mitigation processes to inherently high-risk activities conducted in dynamic environments; knowledge, skills, and abilities to conduct basic first aid and first responder emergency actions and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as determined by specific mandates of location/course of instruction. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
