About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the Network Enterprise Center in Redstone, AL.

Duties

Serve as lead subject matter expert (SME) in software configuration management for the Regional Network Enterprise Center – Central, Redstone Arsenal. Provides monitoring of daily Information Technology (IT) work to include, but not limited to, patch management (client/server), incident resolution (end-to-end), and problem management of complex IT operations. Review and schedule work/timeline of completion and provide process improvement recommendations necessary to keep all enterprise applications operational on a day-to-day basis. Provide customer service and technical support to ensure mission critical IT Systems are operational and available in support of business activities via local personal computers (PC), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and VDI Hosting Servers. Maintain awareness of leading edge IT technology in order to provide technically accurate recommendations for solving complex PC problems expediently.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
  • TDY required up to 20%.
  • Lifting up to 35 pounds is required.
  • May be subject to be on-call or call back to provide coverage during evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and in other situations.
  • May be required to use cellular telephone and maintain a working home telephone at all times.
  • May be required to work shift work if the organization moves to a 24/7 operation.
  • Call back and emergency duty are regular requirements of this position.
  • This is an Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program position. Incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoD 8140.
  • Position is designated as mission essential and may require employee to remain on duty or report for duty during severe weather or other installation closings. May be required to work overtime and other than normal duty hours.

(4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. AND Your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by writing scripts to manage multiple client computers (Windows 10\11, Linux, or similar Operating System); creating and deploying Operating System images (Virtual and non-virtual) with all supporting office applications and security configurations; troubleshooting complex computer problems for virtual and physical computing environments, leading the configuration of Virtual Desktop infrastructure (VDI); monitoring Information Technology (IT) work to include patch management (client/server), incident resolution (end-to-end), and problem management of complex IT operations, or designing, building and implementing a large VDI environment to include backend architecture, endpoint device, and license management.
