You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (SHIPBUILDING) in the INSPECTION BRANCH, NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for the acceptance of material and equipment at the vender’s plant.
You will be inspecting, reviewing, and evaluating the vendor’s procedures, documents, and materials.
You will review the Defective Material Reports (DMRs) for non conforming material.
You will be making decisions under pressure and to converse authoritatively on the action taken.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
* Experience utilizing Quality Assurance and Quality Control Procedures.
* Experience incorporating production methods, techniques, and industrial processes required to control the quality of items during manufacture.
* Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
* Experience working with submarine hardware, contractual requirement, inspection procedure(s) and non-destructive testing techniques.

Education
GS-09
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
or
1 year equivalent to at least GS-07.
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position.
