About the Position:
Serves as secretary and personal assistant primarily to one individual by performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties which relieve the supervisor of all office routine and aids in the solution of procedural and management problems.
Duties
Review and edit correspondence, reports and other documents prepared for signature for conformance with regulations, grammar, format and policies of the office.
Screen correspondence and material to determine and prioritize information to be brought to managers' attention.
Maintain supervisor's calendar, schedule appointments with reminders of scheduled events; arrange conferences, and inform staff of developments or meeting arrangements.
Receive and screen visitors and phone calls accurately, tactfully determine the nature of the request in order to refer only those contacts needing staff attention.
Utilize a variety of office automation software in order to process and produce a wide range of documents, research, and respond to requests for information concerning organizational functions.
Requirements
- One year probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes preparing and reviewing correspondence, reports, and other documents; ensuring correct grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and appropriate format; maintaining supervisor's calendar and scheduling appointments and meetings; making travel arrangements, scheduling transportation, hotel reservations, and preparing travel orders using automated systems; and utilizing a variety of office automation software programs (such as Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
