Duties

In this position you will serve as a Staff Assistant, providing administrative and clerical support to relieve the manager's workload and ensure the smooth operation of the immediate office and an extensive subordinate organization. This position starts at a salary of $52,214.00 (GS-7, Step 1) to $83,027.00 $83,027.00 (GS-09, Step 10). with promotion potential to $$83,027.00 (GS-9, step 10) GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. Major duties for this position include, but are not limited to: Relieving the manager of unnecessary interruptions and demands on his/her time by handling administrative matters and programmatic problems or referring technical matters to the appropriate individual(s). Coordinating a variety of administrative projects within the office to include the development, analysis and modification of internal administrative policies, procedures and management processes of the office. Coordinating planning for special conferences conducted by the manager with other management officials. Maintains information regarding issues and problems under the jurisdiction of the manager. Participates in providing administrative guidance and assistance to subordinate organizations by answering technical questions on financial and organizational-oriented procedures

Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting with screening calls and visitors and referring them to the appropriate staff member or office, and forwarding to the manager only those calls or visitors requiring his/her attention. Assisting with coordinating a variety of administrative projects within the office to include the development, analysis and modification of internal administrative policies, procedures, and management processes of the office. Assisting with analyzes operational trends and compiling data for analysis by top-level managers. Preparing and/or reviewing all correspondence written for the manager including letters, memorandums, reports, charts, briefing materials, and talking points. Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Screening calls and visitors and referring them to the appropriate staff member or office, and forwarding to the manager only those calls or visitors requiring his/her attention; Participating in providing administrative guidance and assistance to subordinate organizations by answering technical questions on financial and organizational-oriented procedures; Analyzing operational trends and compiling data for analysis by top-level managers; Preparing and/or reviewing all correspondence written for the manager including letters, memorandums, reports, charts, briefing materials, and talking points. Education Substitution GS-07: You may substitute successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education for the experience required at the GS-7 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): You may also substitute for the experience required, it is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (1) Class standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, based on completed courses. (2) Applicants must have a Grade-point average (G.P.A.) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Education Substitution GS-09: You may substitute a Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education in any field or a L.L.B. or J.D. degree for the experience required at the GS-09 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. You are required to submit proof of your claim. Combining Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 06/24/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
