You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the CNC & Precision Machining Mechanical Division (TRF-320), Repair Department (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will be responsible to perform all necessary functions relative to the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tool programs. You will develop CNC machine tool programs for parts and fixtures utilizing Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) interactive graphic computer techniques. You will perform analytical translation of engineering design layouts and drawings to program control media for the operation of CNC machine tools. You will troubleshoot network errors and relates findings to the system administrator.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current IT Level II certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

For GS 09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Experience applying CNC machine operations, engineering concepts and shop practices to assignments. 2) Experience utilizing CNC and conventional machine tool setup to design/manufacture/install/modify setup fixtures and tooling. 3) Experience using CAD/CAM systems, computers, operating systems, networks, application software packages, peripheral equipment, and programming 4) Experience interpreting engineering drawings and visualize objects in three dimensions. For GS 07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Experience applying CNC machine operations, engineering concepts and shop practices to assignments. 2) Experience utilizing CNC and conventional machine tool setup to design/manufacture/install/modify setup fixtures and tooling. 3) Experience using CAD/CAM systems, computers, operating systems, networks, application software packages, peripheral equipment, and programming. Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
  • Experience in a Trade or Craft- may be credited as a specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial development, test, or design responsibilities such as:
    • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
    • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
OR

Education

  • Graduate education may be used for this position if it meets the specialized experience in those instances where it directly relates to the work of the position.
  • Successfully completed two full years of graduate education that directly relates to the position.
  • OR
  • Successfully completed a master's degree that directly relates to the position.

Certification:

Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.

NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
