About the position: This position will be assigned to the IT office on Keesler Air Force Base.
This position is considered regular full time. You are guaranteed 35 hours, however you could work up to 40 hours per week. As a regular part time employee, you are eligible to earn annual leave, sick leave, and sign up for benefits, to include health/life insurance, 401k, and NAF retirement.
Duties
Monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and that operational standards are met. A strong knowledge of computers and how they operate, which includes having a broad understanding of hardware and software, operating systems, and basic computer programming. Troubleshoots hardware, software, Wide Area Network (WAN), and Local Area Network (LAN) problems. Identifies and determines corrective action to be taken in case of malfunctions of hardware or software not covered by standard procedures. Resolves partial system failures (software or hardware-related) by providing for revised applications of system operating capabilities, which involves working through or around the problems with reduced capacity, and readjusting the system when full operating configuration is resolved. Adapts or develops new work procedures and instructions for application by self and others. Determines if the facility environment can provide for system requirements, and infrastructure is in place to support the system. Coordinates with other base agencies and contractors to ensure compliance standards are met. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Proficiency in the use of one or more programming languages is preferred. Must have the ability/knowledge to analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems, and provide effective and economical solutions. Must be able to provide technical advice and guidance to management and have the ability to train users on hardware/soft applications. Must be able to work uncommon tour of duty, including weekends.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
