You will serve as a Transportation Assistant of NAVSUP FLC NORVA GF.

Duties

You will provide transportation support duties that consist of making necessary arrangements for the movement of materials by all modes using commercial carriers and government operated and/or chartered carriers. You will investigate and determine carriers' responsibilities for overages, shortages, astray, damages, or any discrepancies incident to the shipment of material. You will have knowledge of personal property and POV shipping and storage entitlements to inform customers of entitlements and limitations authorized by the government, mover's liabilities and non-shipment of prohibited items. You will establish and maintain shipping/storage records, for audit readiness. You will research regulations, files and multiple automated systems to approve transportation requests. You will present clear and comprehensive presentations and briefs, both orally and in writing, and possess effective interpersonal skills for communicating with peers and customers.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires occasional travel.

Qualifications

GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing work requiring the application of an extensive body transportation regulations, methods and practices to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments and resolving a wide range of problems/issues related to the movement and storage of personal property. (Examples of specialized experience include the following: 1) Performing a wide range of personal property shipment management functions including household goods entitlements, personal property counseling, inbound and outbound shipment management, temporary storage and non-temporary storage; 2) Determining and advising on entitlements or procedures related to the type of quantity of personal property that can be moved at government expense, storage entitlements, mover's liabilities and prohibited items; 3) Serving as point of contact resolving problems and ensuring that the work of Transportation Providers and/or contactors engaged in the physical handling and movement of household goods comply with applicable service tenders, solicitations, contact specifications and other government regulations); 4) Utilizing automated systems to reconcile errors, track shipment, storage and delivery services; and 5) Communicates both orally and in writing with peers, customers and management by presenting clear and comprehensive presentations and briefs. GS-06 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing work requiring the application of transportation regulations, methods and practices to perform interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments and assist in resolving problems/issues related to the movement and storage. (Examples of specialized experience include the following: 1) Reviewing orders and determining the extent of entitlements and eligibility for the shipment; 2) Explaining shipment and storage options, excess costs, special procedures for shipments under various types of orders; 3) Assisting in performing a wide range of personal property shipment management functions including household goods entitlements, personal property counseling, inbound and outbound shipment management, temporary storage and non-temporary storage; 4) Utilizing automated systems to reconcile errors, track shipment, storage and delivery services.
