About the Position: This position is located in USAJFK SPECIAL WARFARECENTER & SCHOOL, FORT LIBERTY, NC.

Duties

Operate and participate in communications nets using long, medium, and short-range high frequency (HF) communications, and the Special Mission Radio System (SMRS) using the AN/PRC-137H radio set. Provide advice, instruction, and assistance in communications systems (including system capabilities and operations) to Special Warfare Training Group students (Special Forces Candidates and Allied Nation students) contractors and civilian employees. Review vendor system software, hardware, and firmware for their applicability to the Base Station Communications usage and integration. Utilize network monitoring and performance tools for analysis and diagnosis and performs system backup and recovery.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and overtime.
  • This position is subject to uncommon tours of duty and/or shift work.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing administration, delivery, and support of information technology (IT) networks and radio communications; troubleshooting occurrences that disrupt the flow of communications (requiring complete software reloads and system back-ups); and operating satellite and fiber optic computer stations. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field with a major study in electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Systems Acquisition and SustainmentTechnical CompetenceTelecommunications Project/Program ManagementTelecommunications System Testing and Evaluation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
