Job opening: ENGINEER TECHNICAN (MECHANICAL)

Salary: $59 744 - 85 783 per year

You will serve as a ENGINEER TECHNICAN (MECHANICAL) in the Foundry Engineering Branch (Code 1420.1), Manufacturing Engineering Division (Code 1420), Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will perform complex technical calculations, identify most economical and efficient procedures and prepare technical work documents, procedures, plans, standards report, diagrams, tests and calculations. You will evaluate long-range scope of work and provides feedback on technological and equipment requirements necessary for achieving innovative objectives You will comply with all security requirements and manage classified material accordingly. You will provide schedule and cost estimates to engineers within their code to ensure designs will be on-time and under budget in addition to having a positive strategic outlook long-term. You will utilize computer-aided-design (CAD) to analyze requirements and create simulation or manufacturing models from.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying elementary mechanical concepts, theories, principles, practices and techniques related to the highly specialized field of large propulsor manufacturing. Experiencing evaluating and resolving complex issues not covered by published guidelines or that require experienced judgement and resourcefulness in applying technical principles and practices. Experience utilizing hydrodynamic CAD for manufacturing, thermal-fluid simulations, pattern manufacture, mold manufacture, pouring operations, non-destructive testing, weld repair documentation and approval, hardware procurement and manufacturing, painting, acoustic testing and preservation / shipping of propulsor components. GS:08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying algebra principles and operating the CAD systems and programs developing computer models with geometrical constraints. Experience interpreting engineering drawings, and visualizing objects in three dimensions. Experience to working with other Engineering Support Division personnel of various disciplines, professionals, technicians, mechanics and supervisors in the organization, as well as high-ranking representatives of sponsors, private sector partners, NAVSEA, and shipyards.
