You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the WELDING ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN, QUALITY ASSURANCE DIVISION of NAVAL FOUNDRY and PROPELLER CENTER (NFPC), NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD DETACHMENT, PHILADELPHIA..

Duties

You will be responsible to ensure that welding concepts, work practices and philosophy related to propeller fabrication and repair work are fully implemented. You will be responsible for resolving technical problems where the area is not well defines by procedural requirements. You will develop and maintain welding work documents and maintain welding requirements and test specifications as a library and guide to various activities. You will provide information, instruction, technical and administrative guidance, as related to welding, to engineers and engineering technicians of various grades. You will be responsible for qualifying personnel from various activities in welding and brazing techniques required in support of propeller fabrication and repair work and NFPC manufacturing operations.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Serving as a welding engineering consultant to various activities engaged in propeller fabrication and repair work and Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) manufacturing operations. Identifying the requirements to qualify welders and assisting in the preparation of work instructions. Demonstrating extensive knowledge of the welding, brazing and nondestructive testing (NDT) requirements to serve as a primary point of contact for welding engineering functions. Recommending solutions necessary to eliminate or improve welding and brazing quality problems using Quality Assurance program requirements, technical engineering specifications and instructions. Coordinating with other Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) technicians and engineers to ensure that all technical issues are addressed and all project objectives are met. Performing material testing including casting analysis, chemical analysis, and tensile testing.
