This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Colorado River Agency in Parker, Arizona. Maintain government facilities and grounds at Colorado River Agency. This is a Bargaining Unit position, for more information see What are bargaining units? NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

Maintenance Mechanic reports to Branch of Facilities Management performing mixed duties of general nature for proper recurring and preventive maintenance, including major and minor improvements to the buildings, grounds, and utility systems. Electrical, Plumbing, and Heating Repairs. Groundskeeping, Maintenance, and Repairs. Trades and Craft work such as Carpentry and Painting. Routine, Recurring, and Preventative Repairs. Miscellaneous maintenance duties. This position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED and may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks; the first cut-off date for applications is 10 business days from the opening date and every two weeks thereafter. Applicants with 10-point Veterans' Preference who submit a complete application after each two week cut-off date, but before the List of Eligible(s) is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified. Applications will remain active for 3 months.

Physical Demands: Physical effort is moderate to heavy, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders, stilts or scaffolding, and bend ,stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (exposure to temperature extremes). Tools, equipment, and heavy objects involved present chances of serious injury. Protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sub glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators, and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
