Serves as a senior analyst/recognized program expert in the Office of Disability Programs (ODP). As required by changing workloads or program priorities, plans, directs, conducts or participates in projects in one or more of the Offices in ODP, with continuing responsibility for major projects and broad studies pertaining to the development, evaluation, interpretation and maintenance of disability evaluation policy and procedures.
Duties
Identifies strategic program policy issues; prepares regulatory and policy proposals and position papers; and recommends alternative solutions to issues identified.
Coordinates disability policy/procedural issues with other government agencies, e.g., Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Serves as a recognized Agency expert and senior advisor in the disability programs under title II and title XVI of the Social Security Act.
Develops guides, procedures, user specifications, training and other materials necessary for the implementation of executive decisions, new and revised program policy directives, and class-action lawsuits. [...]

Leads or serves on task forces, teams and work groups that include other SSA components, other government agencies and/or outside organizations.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Selective Service Registration, if applicable (www.sss.gov)
- Fingerprinting and background and/or security investigation may be required

Qualifications
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled, that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include both adjudicating and reviewing disability cases in a state or federal disability determination office; and analyzing, interpreting, and explaining medical policies and regulations regarding federal disability programs.
