This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Eighth Coast Guard District, Sector New Orleans, New Orleans, LA.

Duties

The position serves as a Port Security Specialist within the Sector New Orleans Contingency Planning and Force Readiness (CPFR) Department. The selectee prepares, validates, and exercises plans to mitigate port security contingencies that apply to Coast Guard authorities. As well as serving as the port security subject matter expert responsible for the implementation and enforcement of Executive Order 10173, as amended, the Ports and Waterways Safety Act of 1972, as amended, Maritime Transportation Security (MTSA) of 2002, Security and Accountability of Every Port (SAFE Port) Act of 2006, and other Coast Guard maritime security enabling authorities at the Sector level.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications

At the GS-12, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in federal service is required. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include; Providing Maritime Security preparedness planning, subject matter expertise and technical support for Area Maritime Security (AMS) Plans (AMSP's) and procedures with a subspeciality in Marine Transportation System (MTS) recovery, including marine salvage and removal of obstructions to navigation; developing new security policies, procedures, or guidelines related to natural disaster, oil/chemical discharge, or terrorist threat incidents.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
