About the Position: This position is located at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Dept of Emergency Medicine, Fort Cavazos, Texas.
Duties
Determine the problem and nature of the emergency calls.
Prioritize incoming emergency and non-emergency calls.
Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency calls during high-risk situation.
Implement local policy, procedures and appropriate jurisdiction and services.
Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers.
Perform basic computer and communications troubleshooting.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to shift work.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain, within one year of employment, a current Department of Defense Tele-communicator I and II, and an Advance Medical Priority Dispatch System certification.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain, within 12 months of employment, a Basic Life Support (BLS).
- This position requires incumbent to work 12-hour rotating shifts which includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
- This position is designated as mission essential.
- The incumbent is required to work regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
- Incumbent is required to report to duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Commander (or his/her designee).
- May be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends, i.e., mandatory overtime; subject to recall to duty.
- Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at their residence to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
- Performs work under stressful conditions and in a restricted office environment.
- Contact are made with police, fire and emergency medical personnel, callers who are often distraught, medical personnel at hospitals, representatives of mutual aid and other agencies in order to coordinate required life and death assistance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Evaluate incoming information, 2. Manage both emergency and non-emergency phone calls, and 3. Transmit calls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
