About the Position: Provide emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency calls and responding with personnel and equipment. Recruitment, Retention Incentive, Relocation Costs and Student Loan Repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation up to Step 5 may be available to newly appointed employees.

Duties

Serve as a Lead Emergency Service Dispatcher, responsible for assuring that 3 personnel assigned to the shift carry out work assignments in accordance with instructions Distribute and balances workload among employees in accordance with established workflow. Prepare and disseminates shift schedules; coordinates internal changes in shift duties to provide for non-incapacitating occurrences. Instruct shift employees in specific duties and job techniques and makes available written instructions, reference materials, etc. Check on work in progress to ensure accomplishment of assigned duties; corrects minor deviations on-the-spot; identifies and reports significant deviations to the supervisor, and maintains records of work performance. Resolve simple informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Provide National Crime Information Center and Crime Information Center training and assistance to employees as needed. Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls. Responsible for caller interrogation to determine the problem and the nature of the call. Prioritizes all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls. Performs crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene. Initiates an immediate, appropriate, emergency response and provides the caller with advanced life support. Dispatch a variety of emergency response units. Notifies police, fire department staff and other agencies concerning incidents when needed.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • Required to possess and maintain certification in CPR, Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System, and DOD Hazardous Materials Awareness. Continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • Responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • Maintain/obtain the Full Access ( 40 hour course) National Crime Information Center and Crime Information Center certification provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • This position is subject to emergency recall to duty.
  • This position is subject to rotating shifts where the incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Telecommunication II certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
