You will serve as a Technician in the Motor Load Branch; Explosives and Energetics Division; Energetics Manufacturing Department of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head.
This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-2 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-05-GS-08. The NT-3 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-09-GS-10. The FPL NT-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-11 and GS-12.
Duties
You will perform disassembly, inspection, assembly, reconfiguration, and circuit testing of tactical Standard Missile rocket motors to support quality evaluations.
You will work with case bonded propellants, beaker loaded propellants, igniters, nozzles, fins, electrical interface wiring, thermal batteries, and nozzle thrust vector controls.
You will work with engineers and technician to resolve problems associated with product quality.
You will monitor and suggest process improvements to manufacture energetic materials.
You will maintain product quality and implement continuous process improvements.
You will support a manufacturing organization.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
- You will be required to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
- You will be required to report to the duty location advertised in the announcement on a regular and reoccurring basis. Occasional telework options may be available.
Qualifications
FOR THE NT-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, NT-02 (GS-05 through GS-08 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing technical engineering service by conducting operations or evaluation on energetic components (e.g. propellants, igniters, thermal batteries) to provide quality control and resolve operational or manufacturing problems in support of explosives testing.
FOR THE NT-02: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, NT-01 (GS-01 through GS-04 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. General or specialized experience must demonstrate the following: reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications to perform technical engineering work (e.g. design; troubleshooting; or maintenance and repair of production systems and equipment) in support of manufacturing energetic materials and related systems.
