You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/ OCEANOGRAPHER/ MATHEMATICS/ COMPUTER SCIENTIST in the Data Exploitation Branch, Data Management Division, Hydrographic Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will be responsible for managing and providing oversight of department training activities, development training, and monitoring completion and coordination with command training office.
You will be responsible for planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
You will be responsible for assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of the assignment, and the capabilities of the employee.
You will be responsible for making decisions on work problems presented by the employee, collaborating with peer level supervisors and the division director to negotiate, decide on, and/or coordinate work changes.
You will be responsible for advising Division Branch Director on problems involving the relationship of the work of the Branch to broader programs and its impact on such programs.
You will be responsible for giving advise, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
You will be responsible for hearing group grievances and serious employee complaints, or ones not resolved.
You will be responsible for reviewing serious disciplinary cases and disciplinary problems involving key employees and recommending disposition.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with bathymetry, hydrography, oceanography, meteorology, statistics, navigation, cartography, applied mathematics, computer science, marine geology, tectonics, cartography, marine geophysics, and acoustics data.
Experience managing the development and maintenance of department configuration management, documentation, cross-department, organization, collaboration, and acceptance testing of command collection systems and platforms.
Experience managing the development, maintenance, and evolution of department GOTS software application including the proper application and adherence to current cyber security instructions, best practices, and prioritization.
Experience managing, developing, and providing oversight for department bathymetric collection systems and platform support such as internal configuration management meetings and working groups, participation in upgrades, evaluation, testing during various yard periods, and attendance of vendor and outside organization meetings.
Experience as a first line supervisor, planning, organizing, and directing the work activities of employees, assuming responsibility for efficient and effective performance of the Branch' objectives, and assuming the duties and responsibilities of the Division Director in their absence.
Experience monitoring progress of all projects, investigating delays, identifying causes, and initiating or recommending corrective action to ensure deadlines are met.

Physical Science Series, 1301:
- Applicants must possess a successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors' or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation.
Oceanography Series, 1360
- Applicants must possess a successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors' or higher degree that included 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology. Plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
OR
- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Mathematics Series, 1520:
- Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
or
- Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Computer Science Series, 1550:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
