You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENTIST & OCEANOGRAPHER in the Hydrographic Department, Submarine Products Division, Special Projects Branch, Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will receive, process, QC hydrographic and bathymetric survey data.
You will plan and serve as a specialist in the planning, execution, and processing of hydrographic surveys.
You will travel onboard survey vessels as Lead Hydrographer.
You will lead teams of junior scientists and direct team members to ensure data is properly compiled, analyzed and evaluated.
You will provide technical guidance to lower grade personnel who provide support for accomplishing the assigned projects.
Requirements
- This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications
GS-12 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying knowledge from the fields of mathematics, physics, and computer science along with oceanography, hydrography, and/or bathymetry to solve problems.
Experience preparing material based on technical and scientific abilities.
Experience collecting oceanographic, bathymetric and/or hydrogrpahic data aboard survey vessels.
Experience planning, organizing, and directing work of other subordinates, oceanographers, and technicians.
Experience performing assigned tasks on in-house data processing of navigation and bathymetric, hydrographic, and/or oceanographic information using the latest post-processing techniques.

General Physical Science Series, 1301
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
or
Oceanography Series, 1360
Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences

Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education
