Duties
First line supervisor for the scientists, engineers, technicians, and support personnel of the Detonation Science and Modeling Branch (DSMB).
Aligns resources to Army Research Laboratory (ARL) and Army priorities.
Provides a vision for the Branch personnel.
Directs accomplishment of highly complex mission-critical weapon systems programs with significant impact on national defense capability to further organizational mission.
Tracks progress of organizational performance to justify significant changes in staffing, equipment/facilities, and processes.
Leads a team to meet customer deliverables both internal and external to the directorate.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret - Special Sensitive (High Risk) security clearance Sensitive Compartmented Information or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening and random drug testing after that.
- Three-year trial period may be required.
- You may be expected to travel for this position 15% or less.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R
- A one year trial period to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education AND experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement
A. Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience with course work equivalent to a major as shown in A. above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
One year of specialized experience which includes (1) supervising a subordinate staff, to include execution of all human resource activities and responsibilities associated with a supervisory position; (2) research (including discovery, modeling & simulation (M&S), synthesis, formulation, characterization), development, and transition of technologies associated with the science of energetic materials; (3) applying engineering/scientific skills to advance state of the art energetic materials and (4) the ability to communicate/coordinate multidisciplinary and highly complex Research and Development efforts.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower band grade/level position in the federal service (DB 03/GS-12/13).
