You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the POWER CONVERSION BRANCH, NUCLEAR ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for the Shipyard’s electrical engineering work involving assigned power conversion systems.
You will perform advance technical planning functions in the support of the Power Conversion Branch.
You will be charged with the responsibility for technical control of all work, with your assigned area, carried on the Shipyard.
You will act as a consultant to all elements of the Shipyard as an engineering specialist.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
GS-12
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience as a qualified nuclear engineering technician with both a broad technical knowledge and understanding of other fields of engineering.
Experience with on-the-job training in the specialty of Instrumentation and Controls as well as having a nuclear or electronic background with knowledge in troubleshooting techniques.
Experience with ship propulsion nuclear reactor plants in the functional area of nuclear plant testing.
GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience coordination of all phases of the electrical work, including preparation of technical work documents and system troubleshooting.
Experience providing technical direction and develop new approaches to ensure the engineering direction conforms to prescribed rules and regulation.
Experience studying, evaluating, and selecting references such as guidelines of the Shipyard, NAVSEA manuals, instructions, drawings, textbooks, engineering standards, technical handbooks and established practices.
