As a Supervisory Human Resources Specialist (Military) you will direct and review staff's work and performance, ensuring technical desk guides follow current and changing law and policy.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  Typical work assignments include:

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-09 level if you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are: -Assisting with training other employees in processing military personnel actions. -Reviewing military service data and performing creditable military service calculations. -Assisting with reviewing a wide range of military personnel actions. -Correcting data entries in an automated personnel management system. -Providing managers and employees with information and interpretation of military human resources policies, procedures, and guidelines when the issues addressed are of routine difficulty. -Participating in action plans related to the implementation of human resources program projects. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One of the following types of education in a related field may be substituted for specialized experience:  A Master's or equivalent graduate level degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D.  Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the GS-09 and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.  Only graduate education in excess of the first full year of graduate level education may be used to qualify applicants for positions at the GS-9 grade level. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.  Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.   **If you are qualifying based on education you must submit your unofficial transcripts** National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
