This position is located in the Department Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Pay and Personnel Center (PPC), Customer Service Division in Topeka, KS.

Duties

In this position as Supervisory Human Resources Specialist (Military), you will perform managerial, technical and administrative supervision over a staff of civilian and military personnel with responsibility for overseeing the Coast Guard enlisted advancement system.

Qualifications

GS-12:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service.  Examples of specialized experience include: Providing managers and employees with information and interpretation of military human resources policies procedures, and guidelines when issues addressed are of a complex nature; participating in action plans related to the implementation of military human resources program projects; reviewing, researching and analyzing program policies providing recommendations to supervisor for changes; assisting supervisor in maintaining and updating military personnel manuals an instructions; performing counseling on military retirement options and benefits. GS-13:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service.  Examples of specialized experience include:  Serving as a technical advisor on a range of military personnel management policies; Ensuring military advancement policies are accurately reflected in computer software programs; Providing recommendations for creating and modifying policies and information management systems in support of military advancements; Developing or approving policies on requests for waivers to various military advancement eligibility requirements.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
