This Legal Administrative Specialist (National Security) position is located in the Office of Intelligence of the National Security Division, Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. The mission of the Counterterrorism Section is to design, implement, and support law enforcement efforts, legislative initiatives, policies and strategies relating to combating international and domestic terrorism.

The primary purpose of this Legal Administrative Specialist (National Security) position is to perform legal case research, analysis, case management support, use of litigation support application tools, discovery support, and pre-trial, trial and post-trial support related to national security for NSD Attorneys. The duties and responsibilities for a Legal Administrative Specialist (National Security) generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide legal research support to attorneys, which is related to sensitive national security, security intelligence, and/or counterintelligence counterterrorism. Conducts various tasks in support of discovery proceedings, monitoring court appearance dates and deadlines, and preparing reports relative to assigned cases or specialized areas of priority program reporting. Assist in organizing, compiling and indexing various discovery materials. Verify docketing of cases set for argument in court. Apply, and adapt concepts, methods, and procedures to carry out project development and documentation activities. Manage daily operation of legal case management databases. Assist attorneys in determining their needs and the type of litigation support (development of appropriate indices, thesauri, authority lists, and other related research tools). Review proposals for compliance with statutes and policies. Prepare briefs for new attorneys or attorneys requesting guidance on the nature of litigation support, its capabilities, applications and limitations. Organize witness testimony related to exhibits and draft pre-trial motions, to include jury instructions. Provide trial preparation, trial presentation, and post-trial support. Compile, organize, and index various discovery and evidence for hearings and trials.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Legal Administrative Specialist (National Security) at (GS-0901-12), you must possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing legal administrative functions (case management support, legal case research, analysis, use of litigation support application tools, discovery support, and pre-trial, trial and post-trial support, etc.) to support attorneys within an organization. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including Time-in-Grade, by the closing date of this announcement, 06/06/2024.
