Position is located in the Facilities Services Directorate, Standards and Compliance Division, Occupational Safety and Health Branch which is responsible for safety and health program management.

Duties

This is a Direct Hire Public Notice, under this recruitment, applications will be accepted for each location and/or installation identified in this Public Notice and selections are made for vacancies as they occur. This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C. Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Investigates workplace injuries/accidents, material damage, and cases of occupational disease Prepares formal written reports of findings with recommendation, in accordance with regulations. Provides safety training and maintains statistical data regarding safety performance.

Requirements

  • The incumbent may be required to wear protective equipment and clothing, as needed, including hard hat, safety shoes, hearing and eye protection, gloves and respirators.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to identify and evaluate occupational hazards of construction and/or commercial work sites; provide recommendations on control measures for environment characteristics of unsafe work processes; contributed to the development of safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and/or procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualifications and education requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study
