This position is located in the Department of Defense (DoD), Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Standards and Compliance Division (SCD), Occupational Safety and Health Branch (OSHB). The incumbent reports to the Branch Chief, OSHB and serves as an adviser to senior managers and employees on highly technical issues pertaining to safety and occupational health.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:
Serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist.
Responsible for conducting safety and occupational health functions related to new construction and building renovation projects.
Serve as an adviser to senior agency managers and recommends new programs or substantive program changes.
Incumbent develops new inspection procedures to ensure that construction processes and equipment operations are consistent with applicable safety criteria.
Requirements

- May be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period

You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to 1) identifying and evaluating occupational hazards of construction and commercial work sites; 2) providing recommendations on control measures for environment characteristics of unsafe work processes; and 3) developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards..
You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to 1) identifying and evaluating occupational hazards of construction and commercial work sites to identify potential new hazards; 2) developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses; and 3) inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards. .
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
