About the Position: Performs combined cargo movement, forklift and motor vehicle operations in support of mobilization and demobilization at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Duties

Operates forklifts and container handling equipment to move, load or unload, transfer and transport, and stack or unstack palletized goods, boxes, crates, merchandise, materials and supplies. Performs a full variety of cargo movement tasks which often requires the assistance of others in the movement and handling of equipment and other specialized cargo. Assembles and packs equipment for shipment. Operates stake trucks, cargo vans, and tractor semi-trailers to pick up and deliver materials and equipment to various locations and work sites.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain forklift training certification and license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain container handler training certification and license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete A pre-employment physical and yearly thereafter.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Material Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Materials Handler duties. Receive and unload shipments; and perform warehouse inventories. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Transportation movements and container yard work requires prolonged standing on hard surfaces, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, positions and carries supplies and equipment weighing from 20 to 35 pounds and, occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting and stopping the forklift truck and raising, lowering and tilting the loads being moved. Motor vehicle and material handling operation requires good hand and eye coordination in the manipulation of gears, levers, brakes, steering wheel, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in cold, damp, drafty and hot areas. Subject to injury from falling objects, collisions, shifting loads and overturning. Equipment is operated wherever it is needed.
