About the Position: Serves within Fifth U.S. Army (USARNORTH) in the Plans Branch of the G6. Provides SATCOM planning and technical expertise in support of Homeland Security and DOD Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) missions. Provides deliberate and crisis action planning support to Fifth U.S. Army (USARNORTH) and US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM).

Duties

Assists in developing and directing SATCOM support to operations in support of Fifth U.S. Army (USARNORTH) and US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). Ensures the availability of SATCOM resources to assist in planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling to accomplish missions across the full spectrum of conflict. Identifies SATCOM requirements, capabilities, and characteristic shortfalls Responsible for development of the Satellite Communications portion of the overall C4 plan to support assigned missions. Plans and coordinates logistic support for Satellite Portion of the C4I network operations. Develop communications-electronics Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) that are required for successful implementation of current operations support.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Incumbent will be expected to function in adverse climatic conditions and under intense physical and mental stress.
  • Must be capable, upon completion of training, of unassisted donning of mission oriented protective posture (MOPP) mask, clothing and equipment.
  • Must be able to wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) or clothing such as boots, goggles, gloves, chemical mask and other safety equipment as required.
  • As a pre-condition of employment, any and all incumbents of this position must pass a physical examination.
  • Participation in the DOD/DA Immunization program to include live vaccinations as required by DOD/DA policy.
  • Employees may be required to wear an electronic pager and maintain a working telephone at all times.
  • Must be able to obtain/hold a Top Secret security clearance with SCI access requiring a drug test. Failure to satisfactory complete any aspect of this process is grounds for termination.
  • TDY up to 25% maybe required.
  • This is a Drug Tested position.
  • Incumbent will be required to successfully complete annual training associated with the position.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationOrganizational AwarenessPlanning and EvaluatingTelecommunications Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Highly Desired experienced with the developing and planning Satellite Access Request (SAR) and Satellite Access Authorization (SAA) systems required by Space Command to obtain access to satellite systems; Experience in Frequency Management for satellite systems to plan, prepare and develop satellite missions for on-the-spot mission changes direct to Space Command or Civilian Satellite Controllers; and Expertise and experience in satellite systems management and supervision to devise, develop and plan satellite missions through Space Command or Civilian Satellite Controllers
