Duties

Perform routine data analysis of natural resources to document findings. Execute monitoring efforts to enable data collection, analysis, and reporting at multiple scales. Provide quality assurance of monitoring data to submit to the National Operations Center (NOC). Apply application of monitoring data to support state Monitoring Coordinator decision making. Perform standard geospatial analysis at multiple scales to relate land uses to observe vegetative, soil, biological, chemical indicators, or habitat conditions.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR A combination or education and experience. Courses equivalent to a major (24 semester credits), as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Perform data analysis work of a standardized nature to determine conditions and trends of natural resources; execute standard geospatial analyses at multiple scales such as site and watershed to relate land uses to observed vegetative, soil, biological, chemical (water quality and macroinvertebrates) indicators or habitat conditions; and prepare reports and information papers containing natural resources and/or ecological monitoring findings to support managerial decisions. -OR- Education: Successfully completed at least three (3) years of progressively high graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree directly related to the work of a Data Analyst (Natural Resource Monitoring) (i.e., major study in biology or a related field.) - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is typically performed in an office setting with no special physical demands. However, work is also performed in the field which involves periods of walking, bending, climbing, or driving motor vehicles to worksites. Field work routinely requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces or mountainous terrain; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, and/or reaching; using hand tools such as shovels, trowels, or screening devices; and lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment and samples. The work may also involve some overnight travel for training, meetings, and site visits. Work Environment: The work is usually performed in an office setting. However, work time is also spent visiting field sites. Field site visits are typically performed in an outdoor setting subject to weather changes, diverse terrain, and/or involve safety hazards associated with working around complex features and/or construction. Both settings may require the use of personal protective equipment. Safety precautions and protocols are observed at all times and the incumbent complies with safety instructions and regulations and ensures individual and others' safety by promptly reporting unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and accidents to the supervisor

Education

This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience---courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
