Duties

You will serve as the Strength and Conditioning Specialist at Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group (EODGRU) TWO “STRIKE” Force Resiliency Program (FRP) at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek FT Story, Virginia Beach, VA. You will conduct strength and conditioning assessments, track individual and program outcomes, and make recommendations to modify the program as indicated. You will conduct fitness education via briefings, classes, seminars, and/or workshops on various strength and conditioning topics. You will observe and/or participate in STRIKE force resiliency and unit activities in order to identify physical and ergonomic stressors that increase risk of mission-related occupational injury. You will develop and implement initiatives to mitigate physical and ergonomic stressors and optimize service member performance.

Requirements

  • This position requires Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
  • This position requires American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support health Care provider, CPR and AED certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with Special Operations personnel, Division 1 collegiate athletes, Olympic athletes, and/or professional athletes for a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years. Experience working in large group settings (15:1 or greater athlete : coach level). Experience working in large groups with minimal equipment (Adaptability). Experience working with athletes returning from injury in conjunction with Physical Training/Athletic Training Certification (PT/ATC) (Return to Play). Experience working with athletes of various training levels in the same session. Experience presenting or lecturing on performance topics to large groups (>15 People). Experience programming with software based interfaces (Team Bldr, Bridge, Kinduct). Experience working with sports technology (force plates, VBT, athlete monitoring systems). Experience organizing performance testing a large group of athletes. Experience being graded on success due to athlete injury prevention and/or athlete performance. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

There are no educational substitutions for basic education requirements. Basic education requirements are required for this position. However, the following are educational substitutions for specialized experience.

GS-11:

Successful completion of a 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
