You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety and Occupational Health Division of NAVSTA.
Duties
You will investigate workplaces, facilities, and operation mishaps by obtaining statements from witnesses or taking photographs of mishap scene.
You will recommend corrective actions to reduce risk or hazards based on safety inspection findings.
You will conduct risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards related to a work process.
You will draft reports on mishap investigations resulting in damage to property, equipment, or occupational illness to personnel explaining identifies causes and preventative actions.
You will develop safety and occupational health presentations to increase personnel awareness and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Must take an annual physical.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspecting the work environment for hazardous operational conditions; 2) Identifying the origin, cause and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment; 3) Presenting safety and mishap prevention training to employees; 4) Advising workers on safety requirements, potential accident causing situations and methods for preventing accidents.

Education
The following education may be used in lieu of experience:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
