Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Patrick Space Force Base is searching for an Innovation Director (NH-0301-04).
Description:
CDX is the Development and Innovation Division for Space Launch Delta 45 which serves as the dynamic innovation hub and Spark Cell dedicated to fostering creativity and problem-solving among Guardians and Airmen. The primary organization under CDX is The Forge, established in June 2021 as part of Space Launch Delta 45's commitment to rapid innovation. The Forge acts as a catalyst for developing and implementing local solutions to operational challenges.
At its core, The Forge embodies the spirit of SPARK, a Department of the Air Force (DAF)-level grassroots initiative aimed at overcoming bureaucratic obstacles and accelerating the pace of change within military units. By empowering individuals at the base level to drive innovation, The Forge promotes a culture of ingenuity and collaboration, bringing together military personnel with industry experts, academics, and government officials.Through partnerships with AFWERX and the wider innovation network of the US Air Force and Space Force, The Forge facilitates access to resources and support, enabling Guardians and Airmen to turn their ideas into actionable projects. With a focus on addressing tactical-level challenges and fostering a robust network of experts, The Forge is at the forefront of advancing innovation within the military, ensuring that the Space Force remains agile and responsive in an ever-evolving landscape.
This position serves as the Forge Director for Space Launch Delta 45 (SLD 45) to drive innovation, manage the Spark Cell (innovation team), and lead digital and data transformation across the organization. Provides strategic guidance, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a profound grasp of innovation methodologies, digital technology, and data management to resolve operational challenges within the SLD. Collaborates closely with SLD senior leaders and the launch enterprise on all matters related to creating an effective spaceport. Establishes and maintains the organization's innovation approach and ensures the effective execution of innovative projects.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of multidisciplinary data management and data analytics concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and techniques to apply data-centric problem solving to problems not susceptible to treatment by other methods, and to plan and execute specialized programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and significance.
2. Knowledge of innovation and process improvement industry standards and best practices (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Design Thinking, customer experience design, empathy mapping, customer journey mapping, etc.).
3. Working knowledge of training resources, programs, practices and techniques to advise on, design, develop and provide effective training on innovation and digital transformation lines of effort.
4. Skill in defining, building, and improving processes and digital products, including the creation and launch of new processes, procedures, and digital solutions.
5. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations as well as communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
6. Skill in organizing, planning, leading, controlling, and integrating the efforts of other professional experts and specialists in developing new concepts and approaches; solve complex interdisciplinary problems, developing new policy, and defining new, complex, advanced and high-risk programs.
7. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
8. Growth mindset and a willingness to learn new skills, technologies, and frameworks.
9. Familiarity with military standard testing, human centric design, and deployment of software into the DoDIN.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- This position is on-site and eligible for telework, 2-4 days per pay period.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Advanced degree in a related field preferred.
- PCS funding is not available
