About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation- Outdoor Adventure Program on JBER, AK.
Regular Part-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 20 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. You are eligible for the following benefits and compensation: Health and Life Insurance, Awards, Leave, Retirement, 401K.
Duties
Performs and/or assists in operation and maintenance of recreational facilities. In a patron usage facility, circulates among patrons to assure service is satisfactory; receives and resolves customer complaints; provides information and general instruction on the safety and the use of equipment, facilities and machinery. Issues tools, equipment and specialty items to authorized customers, checking identification, and completing proper paperwork where appropriate. Receives returned items inspecting for obvious damage and missing parts. In an Outdoor Recreation facility assists in directing patrons, scheduling the use of equipment and scheduling special trips and tours. Checks inventories and supplies and records them accordingly. Reports to supervisor any shortages. Participates in and directs activities and special events. Maintains the cleanliness of assigned work areas. Performs minor repair on equipment as directed. Adheres to safety and physical security regulations and standards. Assumes responsibility for cash during tour of duty "cash collected", checks and credit cards. Conducts inventory at beginning and end of tour. Where applicable operates a limited food resale (popcorn, packaged snacks and beverages), inventories and restocks daily. Furnishes general information to patrons (such as kinds of equipment, activities and facilities available). Maintains safe, organized, and clean facility environment by pre-inspecting areas upon opening and closing the facility. Shows initiative by seeking additional assignment from shift supervisor immediately after completion of previous assignments. Actively seeks win-win solutions to differences between staff and customers; and shows a willingness to compromise. Reports for duty on time and provides advance notification to supervisor when planning to be absent or arrive after the appointed duty start time. Adapts and supports changing program objectives with a positive attitude. Operates general and special purpose vehicles to include pickup trucks, 15 passenger vans, all-terrain vehicles, boats, and golf carts. May be required to travel away from JBER. Performs other related duties as assigned.
In addition, incumbent performs the following: Checks in/out shotguns to customers for participation of normal activities offered through the Trap and Skeet Range. Stores shotguns and ammo properly in storage containers. Completes daily inventories of the shotguns and resale items. Required to routinely maintain shotguns. Provide safety video and range rules to our first-time users. Maintain the grounds for safe participation within the range. Required to issue out small retail items to include ammunition and alcohol beverages.
May also be subject to assist the supervising Recreation Specialist in performing and instructing Outdoor Adventure Program tours and instructional classes to include but not limited to: ATV and snowmobile operation, white water rafting, fishing, camping, kayaking, hiking, bicycling and canoeing. Operates general and special purpose vehicles to include pick-up trucks, passenger vans, ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including evenings, weekends and holidays; work often requires working outdoors in inclement weather.

Requirements

- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, or special situations.
- This position requires the incumbent to be at least 21 years of age for issuance of alcohol.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have valid driver's license. Must have cash handling and computer experience. Applicant must have experience which provides a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in activities or programs; and practical knowledge and /or experience of recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedures in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned. Must satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 Investigation. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
