Click on "Learn more about this agency" button below for IMPORTANT additional information. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as to serve as the Recreation Assistant (Community Activities) for the Arctic Warrior Events Center(AWEC) facility and theaters.

Duties

Serve as primary point of contact for project officers, event staff or the Arctic Warrior Events Center (AWEC) Director for events hosted and control all event or facility taskings. Plan, schedule, and coordinate customer service requests and serve as focal point for all audio/visual equipment. Act as the focal point for Visual Information (VI) activities.

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment and participation in random drug testing
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours
  • Work may required unscheduled overtime; and 24-hour on call duties
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • This position may include information assurance (IA) work as an additional duty. Employee must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted.
  • Work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position
  • Work requires some physical exertion such as standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting light to medium weight items, i.e., movement of equipment or furniture for events.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Standard for Technical and Medical Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06 level in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while performing work that included (1) group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; (2) teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; (3) aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; (4) aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; (5) summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children) (6) sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop; (7) aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility; or (8) aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education, or an internship directly related to the work of the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. Knowledge of planning and coordinating events according to customer requirements and ensures all parties understand relevant information and details, knowledge of safety, security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the methods and procedures for operating a variety of computer systems and multimedia and audiovisual/video teleconferencing and sound systems equipment Ability to present subject matter information in visual form to convey an intended message or to achieve desired effect upon a specific audience. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels both orally and in writing often with a short suspense; knowledge of briefing preparation and presentation; ability to communicate ideas concerning visual media while exercising tact and diplomacy. Knowledge of special or event functions and rules of diplomatic, civil and precedence, formality, and etiquette to plan visits for dignitaries and, briefings, ceremonies, and official social functions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
