The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a recreation assistant and perform other related Community Center facility and programduties.
Duties
Monitors all areas of the Community Activities Center for authorized use and corrects any problems within capability and/or reports such problems immediately to supervisor.
Arranges and documents all facility reservations for authorized groups.
Monitors facility cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance.
Provides outstanding customer service.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions
EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and which are typically in or related to the position of Recreation Assistant. General Experience is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience is experience gained while performing work that included (1) group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; (2) teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; (3) aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; (4) aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; (5) summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children) (6) sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop; (7) aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility; or (8) aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of 2 years of study related to the position of Recreation Assistant.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Less than the full amount of general and/or specialized experience but have completed some education. Therefore, a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your official transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of cash handling procedures and facility sanitation requirements.
2. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with people.
3. Skill and knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and associated techniques and procedures.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
