Click on "Learn more about this agency" button below to view Eligibilities being considered and other IMPORTANT information. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Recreation Assistant (Community Activities) for the Arctic Warrior Events Center (AWEC) facility and base theaters.

Duties

Serves as primary point of contact for project officers, event staff or the AWEC Director for events hosted at JBER and handles all event or facility taskings. Plans, schedules, and coordinates customer service requests and serves as focal point for all audio/visual equipment. Acts as the focal point for Visual Information (VI) activities.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
  • This position may include information assurance (IA) work as an additional duty. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the recipient of this additional duty must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties
  • A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in the reassignment of this additional duty to another employee within the organization
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT / PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPOLYEES: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a wide range of the principles, methods, and techniques to assist in the planning, implementing, recreational program offering a variety of community activities and services. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR APPLICANTS WITH NO PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a wide range of the principles, methods, and techniques to assist in the planning, implementing, recreational program offering a variety of community activities and services. OR EDUCATION: One full year of graduate education with courses related to recreation or physical education such as (e.g., recreation, basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, arts and crafts, etc.). NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS - CURRENT / PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPOLYEES: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS - APPLICANTS WITH NO PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of visual communication, illustration, design, layout principles, and concepts for the conception, planning and execution of a variety of complex projects. 2. Knowledge of planning and coordinating events according to customer requirements and ensures all parties understand relevant information and details. 3. Knowledge of the methods and procedures for operating a variety of computer systems and multimedia and audiovisual/video teleconferencing and sound systems equipment. 4. Ability to present subject matter information in visual form to convey an intended message or to achieve desired effect upon a specific audience. 5. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels both orally and in writing often with a short suspense; knowledge of briefing preparation and presentation; ability to communicate ideas concerning visual media while exercising tact and diplomacy. 6. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of special or event functions and rules of diplomatic, civil and military precedence, formality and etiquette to plan visits for dignitaries and, briefings, ceremonies and official social functions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
