The primary purpose of this position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Work requires journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and craft areas including carpentry, plumbing, painting, roofing, building and utility maintenance work located in Manhattan Sites, in the Facilities Division. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.

Duties

Construct, alter, modify or repair a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities in accordance with the accepted practices of the applicable trades and crafts areas. Construct, repair, and replace floors, shelving, rafters, stairways, doors, windows, and roofs. Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as potable and wastewater distribution systems and related equipment such as mains, valves, storage tanks, floats, fittings, sinks, and toilets. Independently perform all phases of painting such as surface preparation, spraying, brushing, rolling, mixing, matching, stains, the selection of paints, oil or latex, rust prevention, etc. Perform incidental duties related to facilities, roads, walkway, and parking lot maintenance during weather-related incidents, including snow and debris removal.

Need to be able to perform common trades work associated with buildings and utilities without more than normal supervision, including providing a simple layout of work assignments, selecting tools and materials, and evaluating work for accuracy, completeness. Have some experience working with and caring for common power and hand tools, working with materials, and performing tasks associated with at least one of the following trades: Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, Plumbing, Painting, Roofing, and Water/Wastewater Operation. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
