The purpose of this position is to serve as a work leader assigned to performing and leading building and utility maintenance work located in Statue Of Liberty National Monument, in the Facilities Division. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.
Duties
The purpose of this position is to serve as a work leader assigned to performing and leading building and utility maintenance work. The duties that a Work Leader performs, include, but are not limited to:
Providing daily direction to at least three (3) workers to accomplish trades work as a regular and recurring part of the job;
Sharing knowledge with workers and answers questions on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives;
Constructing storage areas, workrooms, and offices within existing buildings including framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring;
Planning, computing and laying out projects and identifies material needs.
Constructing, altering, modifying or repairing a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities.
Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems;
Producing finish products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable appearance.
Laying out angles, arcs, and circles;
Working from complex instructions, blueprints, sketches and building codes;
Working from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment;
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, Etc.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, Etc. (includes blueprinting)
Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Knowledge of Materials

Qualifications: Have experience that demonstrates the ability to lead and/or supervise a group of employees or individuals, while also performing duties as a working member of the group. Can perform a full range of trades work as a Maintenance Mechanic Lead, WL-4749-09; to include leading others in common trades, providing a general layout of work assignments, selecting tools and materials, and evaluating work for accuracy, and completeness. Have experience working with and caring for common power and hand tools, working with materials, and performing tasks associated with trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and electrical. These duties are completed under general supervision and subject to occasional inspection.
