About the Position: The 597th Transportation Brigade is the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command's global surface transportation expert focused on U.S. Northern Command areas of responsibility. The Brigade Headquarters is located at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA.
Duties
Serves as the Brigade Director of Logistics and as such is the senior logistician in the brigade and the principal logistics advisor to the Brigade commander.
Performs a wide variety of administrative, technical, and analytical duties in the development of program policies, defines requirements, and reviews budget/program estimates.
Consults and advises the Brigade Commander on all logistics related matters.
Develops, coordinates and directs logistics management for Brigade on all logistic contingency related operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. Incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Developing, coordinating, and directing all logistic contingency related operations such as provisioning, distribution, and maintenance of materiel, transportation, facilities, personnel staffing/training, and funds management; 2) Conducting projects and studies on logistics related policies and processes for refinement or development; And/or 3) Providing authoritative interpretations and guidance to management officials and staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
