Duties
As a Public Health Analyst (Policy and Issues Management), you will:
Identify policy needs (e.g., legislation) and coordinate the preparation of strategies and proposals in response to those needs.
Facilitate effective communications of information in support of such strategies between CDC, Congress, and non-governmental stakeholders.
Cultivate and maintain relationships within CDC and offices within the CDC Office of the Director, Capitol Hill, Federal agencies; and other key partners including national and international organizations.
Provide leadership on legislative goal setting in the federal environment for designated programs.
Develop short and long-range congressional goals for program, coordinate implementation, and assesses progress.
Respond to Congressional/Executive Branch inquiries and correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting analyses of public health policies for federal legislative proposals and Congressional correspondence; writing briefing materials and/or talking points for Congressional meetings and hearings; and assisting in the development and coordination of federal legislative, regulatory, and policy activities.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval. Promotion to the next grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
