You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader in the Production Lines Division (second shift), MRO Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will lead apprentices, trainees, journeymen, workers, military personnel and others in the proper use of tools, machinery, and repair procedures associated with the aircraft sheet metal. You will conduct training sessions designed to update, improve, and upgrade the knowledge and skills of others by selecting, modifying, and using various instructional methods and techniques. You will lead in the use of layout techniques, power tools, materials, measuring devices, precision instruments, and safety devices. You will evaluate the progress of workers in terms such as factors of interest, cooperation, assimilation of basic fundamentals and theory, and practical application of work methods.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Physical exertion requires heavy lifting and carrying of objects up to 45 pounds. Any weight to be lifted in excess of 40 pounds will not be attempted unaided.
• This position requires near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must be able to distinguish colors and have depth perception.
• Incumbent may occasionally be required to use toxic chemicals and/or work in presence of toxic fumes, requiring the use of appropriate breathing apparatus.
