You will serve as a AIRCRAFT EXAMINER (SHEET METAL MECHANIC) in the COMMANDING OFFICER, MRO PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT, PRODUCTION LINES DIVISION of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. Duty Station: San Diego, CA

Duties

You will examine and evaluate the condition of aircraft and aircraft components to determine the depth of overhaul required and prepares all work documents used by production to complete the required work. You will Interpret and retain information from complex blueprints, detailed specifications and technical directives. You will negotiate and resolve controversial issues with many levels. You will analyze and evaluate aircraft logs, records and special configuration information for the rework and repair of Navy Aircraft.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain required certification and/or license as a condition of employment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION A. I am considered an expert in the {trade} and I am consulted by other employees in difficult situations. I have the ability to perform the duties of an Aircraft Examiner (Sheet Metal Mechanic) as demonstrated by working under limited supervision including: Examining and evaluating the condition of aircraft components, dynamic and mechanical components, arresting gear, landing gear, wheel and brake assemblies, sub-components and accessories for same on numerous aircraft types; Performing final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft components and accessories assemblies. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. B I have the ability to perform the duties of an Aircraft Examiner (Sheet Metal Mechanic) as demonstrated by working under normal supervision including: Determining and directing repairs of "safety of flight" discrepancies and preparing "noted but not corrected" listing of all other discrepancies as required. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. C. I have the ability to perform the duties of an Aircraft Examiner (Sheet Metal Mechanic) as demonstrated by working under close supervision including: Determining required depth of repair for the particular aircraft. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
